DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Dent, 33 Cockspur St, London, split-seconds chronograph, 52mm, heavy 18K gold OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1887, "A N" marking in cameo for casemaker Adolph Nicole of Nicole Nielsen & Company, rear with monogram initials, signed gold cuvette with warrant medallions both for the Queen and for the Emperor of Russia, white enamel SS dial, SW-pin-set with Nicole's keyless winding system, fully capped lever escapement, at least 20J, gilt mvt, s#28264 with matching serial number within case and to dial. Gross weight of assembled watch 96.3 dwt (149.7 g). A beautifully executed high grade chronograph made for Dent by Nicole Nielsen who were the makers of a large proportion of Dent's output after the 1870's. CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, winding mechanism remaining engaged when pin is depressed for setting causing both winding and setting mechanisms to act concurrently, overhaul recommended for stand alone setting function, good chronograph function, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, superb gilt tone, few mild fine or micro-fine scratches; dial with light hl at 7:30, seconds-register seated very slightly off-center; nearly mint hands; case shows very little wear, scratch to rear above initials, some mild fine scratches elsewhere, no dents or dings, excellent engraving detail; tight bow thinned slightly at top, crown shows light wear; glass crystal with scattered scratches, small edge flake.
